What is CERT?

Disaster Volunteers Serving Huron and Ottawa Counties
North Coast Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a team of volunteers who are trained and prepared to help their families, neighbors, and communities during disasters. CERT volunteers support disaster preparedness efforts across the community and provide critical services to support emergency management and public safety in the aftermath of a disaster.

CERT volunteers provide a variety of disaster response support services to emergency management and public safety agencies following a disaster.  These services range from debris clean following severe storms to damage assessment. CERT volunteers also assist with safety-related services at community events, such as traffic safety and first aid.

Leadership and  Administration

North Coast CERT operates under the authority of the Emergency Management Agency in each county. The EMAs provide operational oversight and leadership for the team. North Coast CERT only responds to disasters or participates in community events with the permission and oversight of the EMA in the appropriate county. Volunteers do not self deploy.

The day-to-day operations of North Coast CERT are managed by our volunteer coordination team at Resource Solutions Associates.  The EMA Directors in Huron and Ottawa county provide administrative and operational oversight for the program.

If you have any questions about volunteering with CERT, requesting CERT for your community event, or utilizing CERT in a disaster response, please reach out to Sandy Hovest, Team Coordinator.
